VENTURE MATRIX LEADERSHIP PROGRAM - READY2BUILD CAMPAIGN

Venture Matrix - #READY2BUILD CAMPAIGN

The #Ready2Build campaign is #PhaseIV of the venture matrix for the future of Africa project and we aim to engage 50,000 undergraduates to lend their voice to the movement on unlocking Africa's prosperous destiny through an enabling environment that increases our participation and inclusion in Africa's economic value creation ecosystem.

Introduction

Nigeria’s population is now pushing towards 210 million, over 60% of which is under the age of 25 years. There is an overburden on the current system put in place to provide access to economic opportunity for young people. The system appears to remain the same even when everything around the world is changing and the role of young people has been treated as that of spectators who have to wait for things to happen to them.

We believe that if we can increase the participation and inclusion of young people, especially in the University, in deciding what our economy should function like, we would be able to enjoy a prosperous economy. If we can create an enabling environment for the undergraduate community to solve local problems, we would have a better chance at changing the narrative as the poverty capital of the world.

Venture Matrix represent your interests and make your dreams known to those in Government who can make the change happen. Your voice will help us understand and debate the current systems and make recommendations to the government that will help shape Nigeria’s economic strategy going forward.

We are advocating for the undergraduate community to have access to these:
- Institutional autonomy
- Legislative action for an enabling environment
- Infrastructural support
- Funding opportunities
- Capacity Development programs
“The secret message communicated to most young people today by the society around them is that they are not needed, that the society will run itself quite nicely until they at some distant points in the future will take over the reins. Yet the fact is that the society is not running itself nicely because the rest of us need all the energy, brains and talent that young people can bring to bear down on our difficulties. For society to attempt to solve its desperate problems without the full participation of the youth is folly, to say the least.” – Alvin Toffler.

Nigeria’s population is now pushing towards 210 million, over 60% of which is under the age of 25 years. There is an overburden on the current system put in place to provide access to economic opportunity for young people. The economy is dominated by the informal economy which makes up more than 45% of our economic system, but do not have access to economic resources because it is unregulated and unstructured. This rids it of access to innovation resources that affects the potential of the sector. However, the undergraduate community can design solutions within the local economy to impact the economic and socioeconomic health of communities across Nigeria. This would be achieved through the creation of an enabling environment for Value creation as outlined in the Venture Matrix for the Future of Africa. We would get it started,  but we need to get the Government involved by paying attention to our limitations in making this happen.
